This program is: open on a limited basis

Traditional adoption is not allowed in Morocco. Only guardianship is permitted. However, after guardianship-regionally called kefala custody-has been granted, the adoptive parents can bring the child to the United States to have the adoption finalized, after the Moroccan government gives permission.

Morocco requires that prospective adoptive parents are either lawfully married couples or single females. Single males cannot adopt. Also, it is required that the applicants are Muslim, employed, and are good physical and mental health-as confirmed by a Moroccan doctor. In 2011, 46 children were brought to the United States and officially adopted.
